How to get rid of scars

How to get rid of scars

Scar removal treatments and remedies vary from the use of cucumber paste to honey and turmeric and various other remedies which we will discuss below. These remedies can all be tried but it is without doubt the use of medical grade silicone topical gel or silicone sheeting that works best and the fastest. We understand that the silicone sheeting and gels are expensive but please bear in mind that the silicone sheets are reusable for many months, sometimes even years if they are properly cleaned and used as directed.

Home remedy Scar treatments

Cucumber paste (for facial scarring)

Cucumbers provide fantastic hydration to skin when used periodically. Make a simple paste using 3-4 medium cucumbers (seeds removed), a few mint leaves and a teaspoon of lemon juice.

Blitz all of the ingredients in a blender and transfer to a glass jar. Now crack an egg, beat well and add to the mixture, shake well and apply to the skin and scarred area. Leave on your scar for approximately 20 minutes and then rinse off with luke warm water.

Lemon Juice

Lemons contain alpha hydroxyl acids which have shown to have a marked effect on bleaching the skin and scars that are darker than the surrounding skin.

Soak a cotton ball in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and apply to the scar. After 10 minutes rinse the skin.

This has been shown to be effective at reducing the appearance of scars that are darker.

Olive oil and tea tree oil

These have also been relatively effective at reducing the appearance of scars.

Olive oil can be rubbed directly into the scar tissue by massaging the scar for about 5 minutes, leaving the oil on the skin for a further 10 minutes and then wiping clean with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Tea tree oil need to be mixed with warm water to create a soapy mixture. Wash the scars with the tea tree mixture for 5-10 minutes and then clean off with a damp cloth.

There are possibly as many as 10 or 20 other possible home remedies that include using honey, cocoa butter, Indian gooseberries and aloe vera gel. All have shown some effect but their effectiveness pales in comparison to using silicone sheeting and silicone gel.
